Woman, 77, dies in fire at three-story building in On Nut

BANGKOK — 29 August 2026, A 77-year-old woman was found dead after a fire broke out at a three-story commercial building near Soi On Nut 27 in Bangkok’s Suan Luang district early on 29 August.

Police were alerted at 01:00 on 29 August and officers from Phra Khanong Police Station rushed to the scene on On Nut Road in Suan Luang subdistrict.

Firefighters from Phra Khanong and Bang Na fire stations arrived with more than 10 fire engines, an aerial ladder truck and rescue workers from the Poh Teck Tung Foundation.

The fire was burning intensely on the first floor of the commercial building before spreading to the second and third floors. Three residents were trapped inside.

Officials used water to battle the blaze for about 30 minutes before bringing it under control.

Two residents, a man and a woman, were injured after inhaling smoke and were taken to a hospital for treatment.

A third resident, identified as Ms Wanida, 77, was found dead on the second floor of the building.

Forensic officers and a forensic doctor examined her body at the scene as part of the investigation.

A witness told authorities that they heard what sounded like an electrical short circuit. When the witness went outside to investigate, they saw an electric motorcycle parked on the first floor on fire.

The witness tried to put out the flames with water, but the fire spread rapidly through the building.

Police are questioning the two injured residents and coordinating with forensic officers to examine the scene and determine the cause of the fire.
